DAILY DIARY_THINK IN ENGLISH CHALLENGE
Today is a national holiday in Japan, commemorating the enactment of the Constitution of Japan on this day in 1947. It consists of a preamble (pree-yam-bol) and the text of 11 chapters and 103 articles, and its basic principles are “national sovereignty (suh-ve-rey-nity),” “renunciation (ree-nun-see-yey-shun) of war,” and “respect for fundamental human rights.” The Constitution states that Japan must not have an army, but Japan has its own Self-Defense Forces. That may be a violation of the Constitution. Therefore, Abe, who is the previous prime minister, tried to enshrine the Self-Defense Forces in the Constitution, but failed.

The table shows the sales at a small restaurant in a downtown business district from February 22 to 26, 2021. The table also shows sales for lunch and dinner separately.
From the comparison between lunch and dinner, we can see that dinner sales are better. The difference is about 1.5 times. It is expected that this is because people have more time to eat dinner than lunch and take their time.
From the comparison between weekdays and weekends, we can see that weekday sales are better. This trend is the same for both lunch and dinner. This is expected because office districts are more crowded with working people on weekdays.
In addition, Friday dinner sales are the best. This is probably due to the fact that many workers went out for drinks before the weekend. In contrast to this, weekday lunch sales are not very different. You can see that there is no change in the movement of people during lunch depending on the day of the week.
The sales at this small restaurant during the week of Feb 22-26 followed a fairly set pattern from Monday to Friday, and then showed a notable/remarkable/noticeable shift on the weekend. The lunch and dinner sales during the week peaked on Friday and then dipped down as the weekend set in.
During the week of Feb 22-26, the lunch sales averaged at approximately $2,400. The highest lunch sales occurred/was recorded on Friday, and the lowest occurred on Sunday. Sunday’s lunch sales were approximately $1,000 less than the average lunch sales during the rest of the week.
Dinner sales, which generated at least $1,000 to $1,500 more a day than lunch sales, also remained steady during the week. Just like the lunch sales, the dinner sales peak on Friday and dipped down for the weekend.

Excluding Wednesday and Thursday, the lunch and dinner sales from Feb 22-26 rose gradually until the end of the business week. Midweek, on Wednesday and Thursday, the sales were slightly lower than they were on Tuesday.
According to the sales report, this restaurant has a steady lunch and dinner crowd. The most profitable day during the second week of Feb was Friday. Sunday, was the least profitable day, with the full day’s sales totaling less than the Friday dinner sales. These numbers are reflective of a restaurant that is located in a business/financial district where business hours are Monday through Friday.
